Create a myEDD account
Click "Register." Enter your email and SSN. Write your password down safely.
Fill out the UI Online application
Answer all questions. It takes about 30–45 minutes. Be honest about why you left your job.
Register with CalJOBS
Go to caljobs.ca.gov and create a profile within 21 days. This is required to keep receiving benefits.
Certify every 2 weeks
Log in to edd.ca.gov every 2 weeks and answer a few questions to confirm you are still looking for work. This keeps your payments coming.
⚠️ Big Warning for California:
California EDD is very slow and hard to reach by phone. Always file online — never by phone if you can help it.
If California sends you a notice asking to verify your identity using ID.me, respond to it IMMEDIATELY. If you ignore it, your account will be frozen and you will not receive any money until you complete it.
